Hope Makers Organization for Woman (HMOW) Celebrates International Women’s Day with Empowering Events for Yezidi Women and Girls

10/03/2024 - Hope Makers Organization for Woman (HMOW) reaffirmed its commitment to empowering Yezidi women and girls through impactful activities held on March 7th and 10th to honor International Women’s Day.
On March 7th, HMOW hosted four awareness sessions in Sinjar and Sinuni. These sessions emphasized the importance of International Women’s Day, focusing on the unique challenges and triumphs of Yezidi women. Participants learned about HMOW’s services and upcoming projects aimed at empowerment and received gift bags with resources on mental health, details about HMOW services, and symbolic tokens such as purple flowers and ribbons. Over 85 attendees from the region registered to benefit from HMOW’s support services.
The celebration continued on March 10th with a special event in Sinuni, attended by 100 community members and beneficiaries. The program included a presentation on the significance of International Women’s Day and HMOW’s services, a touching poem celebrating women, and a theatrical performance that honored motherhood. A musical piece showcased Sinjar’s rich cultural heritage.
Attendees participated in a symbolic activity, dipping their hands in colors representing various causes: purple for International Women’s Day, orange for the 16 Days of Activism against Violence against Women, and pink for breast cancer awareness. The event concluded with a celebratory cake and distribution of handbags containing mental health resources and information on HMOW’s services.
Dr. Nagham Nawzat, HMOW’s executive director, remarked, "We are thrilled to have commemorated International Women’s Day with such meaningful activities. These events celebrated women’s achievements while also highlighting the ongoing challenges they face, especially in the Yezidi community. HMOW remains committed to empowering women and girls, and we deeply appreciate the support of our participants and community members."
Hope Makers Organization for Woman (HMOW) continues to lead initiatives that drive positive change, advocating for the rights and well-being of women and girls.
